This Privacy Policy informs you of the information gathered by My Chronic Pain Atlas (the mobile app, the website) and how that information is used.

The My Chronic Pain Atlas Services include the mobile application (iOS and Android), website, and any related components, updates, or modifications. 

Definitions 

  • “Individual” – means a user of My Chronic Pain Atlas. 
  • “Personal Information” – means information about you where your identity is apparent or can be reasonably ascertained. Personal information includes information that can be used to readily identify, contact, or locate you, such as: name, email address. We do not consider Personal Information to include information that has been anonymised so that it does not allow a third party to easily identify a specific individual. 
  • “Health Data” – means any information about your physical health, symptoms, pain locations, or other health-related information you voluntarily provide through the Services. 

Changes to This Policy 

From time to time, changes may be made to this Policy, and they will be posted on the website at https://mychronicpainatlas.com/ 

It is your responsibility to review this Policy periodically. You will be deemed to have agreed to any such modifications or amendments by your continued use of the Services. 

Disclaimer 

While My Chronic Pain Atlas strives to protect your Personal Information, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be absolutely secure. We cannot warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, but we use industry-standard security measures to protect your data. 

Types of Information Collected 

Information You Voluntarily Provide 

We collect information that you voluntarily give to the Services when you: 

  • Create an account in the app. We collect your email address and name. 
  • Log symptom entries. We collect pain locations, intensity ratings, pain types, triggers, and notes about your symptoms. 
  • Upload photos (optional). You may choose to upload photos showing visible symptoms such as swelling or redness. 
  • GP appointment details (optional). This can include appointment title, doctor name, clinic name, date/time, status, and notes. 
  • Complete GP preparation responses. We collect your answers to questions about your symptoms, concerns, and expectations. 
  • Contact us. We collect Personal Information through your communications with us. 

Information Collected Automatically 

We automatically receive and store information when you interact with the Services, including: 

  • Device manufacturer and model, operating system version, and app version. 
  • Diagnostic and crash data (anonymised). 
  • Usage data to improve the quality of the Services. 

Health Data 

The app collects health-related information you voluntarily provide, including: 

  • Pain locations on a body diagram. 
  • Pain intensity (0-10 scale). 
  • Pain type (sharp, dull, burning, etc.). 
  • Triggers and notes about your symptoms. 
  • Photos of visible symptoms. 
  • Responses to GP preparation questions. 

This information is classified as “special category data” under UK GDPR and is treated with enhanced protection. 

How Your Data Is Stored 

Local-First Storage (Default) 

If you use the app without creating an account, all data is stored only on your device. If you create an account and log in, your data is synced to our secure servers so it can be backed up and accessed if you change devices. 

Cloud Backup  

If you choose to create an account, your data will be encrypted and stored securely on our UK-based servers. 

Data Retention 

  • Data stored locally remains on your device until you delete it. 
  • If you delete your account, all associated data will be removed from our servers. 
  • We retain anonymised usage analytics for app improvement. 

Use and Disclosure of Information 

We treat the information we collect from you as confidential. 

How We Use Your Information 

We use your Personal Information and Health Data to: 

  • Operate and fulfil the Services (pain logging, history, statistics). 
  • Generate GP appointment summaries (PDFs created locally on your device). 
  • Personalise the Services we provide to you. 
  • Analyse, measure, and improve Services. 
  • Communicate with you, such as when providing technical support. 

When We Share Your Information 

My Chronic Pain Atlas will only share your Personal Information with third parties if: 

  • You have given your explicit consent. 
  • We are required or authorised to by law (e.g., in response to a court order). 
  • We determine it is necessary to prevent, investigate, detect, or prosecute criminal offences. 
  • We determine it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of My Chronic Pain Atlas or its employees. 

PDF Summary Sharing 

When you generate a PDF of your symptom data: 

  • The PDF is created locally on your device. 
  • It is not stored on our servers unless you choose to back it up. 
  • You control who you share it with (via email, messaging, etc.). 

Anonymised Data 

We may use anonymised and aggregated data (which does not identify you personally) for analytics and research to improve the app. We do not sell your data, personally identifiable or otherwise. 

Control of Personal Information 

You can update, correct, or delete your Personal Information at any time through the app’s Settings or by contacting us. 

To delete all your data: 

  • Open the app and go to Settings. 
  • Select “Delete All Data”. 
  • Confirm your choice. 

Communications and Opt-Out Options 

Service-Related Communications 

We may send you essential emails related to your account, such as password reset notifications. 

Marketing Communications 

We do not send marketing or promotional emails without your explicit opt-in consent. If you have opted in, you can unsubscribe at any time by using the instructions within each email or by contacting us. 

Children’s Privacy 

My Chronic Pain Atlas is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children. If you believe a child has provided data through our app, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to remove it. 

Security 

We use a range of technologies and procedures to protect your information: 

  • Authentication credentials are stored using platform-secure encrypted storage (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain). 
  • Cloud backups (if enabled) are encrypted in transit and at rest. 
  • We use industry-standard firewalls and security software. 
  • Access to servers is strictly limited to authorised personnel.
